Confirm that replacement is the right step

Can I choose a filter using pool gallons alone?
Pool size matters, but flow, connected equipment, model ratings and installation constraints also matter. The filter must work with the actual system.
Is a cartridge filter always better than sand or D.E.?
Each type has different maintenance and installation requirements. The useful comparison is which option fits your setup and the maintenance you want to manage.
Will a new filter solve cloudy water?
Only if filtration is the cause. Water conditions and other equipment issues may also require attention; a new filter is not a universal cure.
